The Dent

Hearing "Poetic Tragedy" by The Used

I've just got to get this off my chest, because it's been gnawing at the back of my mind for the last week.

I got into an argument with a friend about her car. It started out with a joke; she was going to lock the car doors and drive off, making us chase after her. She had done it before, so I really didn't mind. Our other friend, who had never been victim to this joke, began to sit on the hood of the car which totally changed the atmosphere of the incident.

The friend inside the car started freaking out about the possibility of a dent. I can completely understand being concerned, since purchasing a car is a huge financial decision. She finally let us into the car, but she kept talking about The Dent which was nonexistent. The other friend had never gotten the chance to sit completely on the car. Therefore, there was never enough pressure to make a dent. I jokingly said, "There's no dent, ok! But I can get out, and make one for you if you'd like." Of course it was stupid of me, but in my opinion, if there is no dent...what was the fuss about?

I didn't think it was fair to yell at our other friend. A simple "Please, don't do that again." seemed enough, since it was the car owner's own actions that caused the situation. She didn't like my joke and went on about how "I would be paying" for her car if I did get out. As she was attempting to tell a story about how she had gotten a previous dent I interrupted, because I had heard it before and it had nothing to do with this moment it time. It was ridiculous. The point to me: "No dent, no problem. It's not going to happen again. Let's get back to the fun we were having."

She was pissed. I was slightly annoyed, but not moved. The other friend intelligently stayed completely silent through the whole thing. It was our first fight and I am unapologetic. Does that make me a bitch?
